SlimeVR Butterfly trackers use the nRF52833

Open-hardware VR trackers combine IMUs, an nRF52833 wireless MCU, and a custom 2.4 GHz ESB protocol to transmit motion data.

SlimeVR Butterfly trackers are open-hardware virtual reality devices. They use IMUs to measure absolute rotation and an nRF52833 wireless MCU to transmit data.

Communication uses a custom ESB protocol in the 2.4 GHz band. The software stack also includes firmware, a central server, and third-party integrations.

The project illustrates a low-power wireless MCU and custom protocol in a wearable tracking device. If you use AI to study or adapt the material, share only necessary excerpts and remove internal data, credentials, and identifiers before submitting prompts.

When evaluating an implementation, assess power consumption, wireless transmission, and firmware-to-server integration separately. These considerations can guide testing, but they do not replace validation on the project’s hardware and in its operating environment.
