Asahi Linux moves repositories to GPL-2.0 or later after misuse of its work

The Asahi Linux 7.3 progress report says all repositories are moving to GPL-2.0 or later after code was copied without attribution and rewritten to hide its origin.

According to the Asahi Linux 7.3 progress report, the project behind a Linux distribution for Apple devices says it has identified attempts to exploit its permissive MIT license to take over its work with the stated aim of replacing the project. In some cases, code for features still in development was copied from personal forks without attribution, or rewritten with the help of an LLM to hide its origin. The developers state that MIT offers no protection against this kind of use, and they have started moving all repositories to the GNU General Public License version 2 or later, so that all code will be licensed only under strong copyleft licenses.

The item was reported through the LWN feed, dated November 7, 2026 in the source.
