Audio and AI: transcripts need a data policy too

Turning speech into text changes the format, not the sensitivity. Evaluate every stage before introducing audio into a workflow.

AgentLog highlights research that adds audio understanding to a frozen language model. Technical feasibility does not remove a product concern: a recording can combine identity, workplace context and sensitive information.

Map the file's journey to the result. Identify who accesses the audio, where transcription happens and which text reaches inference. Do not regard a recording as protected simply because its transcript is processed later.

At the text stage, choose a policy for names, contacts and identifiers. Remove identity when it is unnecessary and block content that must not proceed. Test whether replacing values with placeholders preserves enough meaning for the task.

Compare fictional recordings with accents, noise and multiple speakers. Transcription errors can conceal a personal value from detection. Rota offers transcription and processing in its workflow; the cited research does not imply that its particular method is implemented in the platform.
